The most useful distinction is this: Bihar has two UNESCO World Heritage properties—Mahabodhi Temple Complex at Bodh Gaya (2002) and Archaeological Site of Nalanda Mahavihara (2016). Vikramshila is an important protected archaeological site, but it is not a UNESCO World Heritage property.

Festivals and living heritage

Chhath Puja is a major Bihar festival of Surya worship. Bihar Tourism describes it as a four-day observance in Kartik, with offerings to the setting Sun and then the rising Sun. Sonepur Mela is associated with the confluence of the Ganga and Gandak and begins around Kartik Purnima. Pitrapaksha is prominently associated with Gaya and rites for ancestors. In a Prelims answer, do not turn cultural associations into a claim about an official World Heritage listing.
